1930s fashion was a direct rejection of the boxy, male sportswear inspired fashion so prevalent in the 1920s. The For the sake of economy the silhouettes were spare, but wherever possible they emphasized femininity, flow and freedom of movement.
This simple design is perfect for tea in the garden. And when your Kit grows tired of the adult conversation, the a-line skirt is full enough for a little tree climbing.
Based on a late 1930s illustration, this pattern features a basque waist, a square neckline and cooling flutter sleeves. For true 1930s style, and to make the most of your feed sack fabric, the flutter sleeves can be cut on either the straight or bias grain line. Done in an appropriate reproduction fabric, this style would do equally as well for Molly’s time period.
