9468Party Dress pattern

Early World War II fashion was as conservative as possible so that extra material could be used to support the men at war. Dresses were made with a minimum of “extravagances”.

As the war drew to a close the emphasis on conservatism decreased and clothing was made with more feminine lines. Dresses had fuller skirts, deeper hems and generous trim. Clothing became less utilitarian and lost the severe lines copied from service uniforms.

This pattern features a silhouette popular in the mid to late 1940’s. Based on an original 1940’s illustration, it has 2 gently shirred tiers, a sweetheart neckline and ric rac trim. Done in simple prints it’s great for everyday wear. In a more formal fabric it makes a perfect party dress.
